
Dunbar Cave is located 60 minutes northwest of Nashville and about one and one-half miles northeast of downtown Clarksville, TN, in Montgomery County. Dunbar cave is the most prominent of several caves located in this designated natural area. In the roomy mouth of the cave, square dances, radio shows, and big band era concerts were once held.
Caves hikes – May Caver Hikes are every Saturday and Sunday at 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm. Cave Hikes on Memorial Day at 10:00 am, 1:00pm, and 3:00pm. Participants must be at least three (3) years old (able to walk for 1 1/2 hours without being carried), has a flashlight, and a reservation. The cost is $4.00 each.
There are three trails on the natural area that range from a leisurely walk to a fairly strenuous hike. All trails begin and end at the visitors’ center.
Lake Trail: 2/3 mile (easy)
Short Loop: 0.8 miles (moderate)
Recovery Trail: 1.7 miles (moderate)
Directions: Take Interstate 24 to Exit 8 (Rossview Road). Turn left on Rossview Road. Travel ¼ mile to Dunbar Cave Road. The park entrance is 2.5 miles on the right.
